Beachbody Shakeology Review

Shakeology Meal Replacement Shake Review

I’ve been hearing nonstop about the . It falls under the BeachBody line of products, which I’m already a big fan of.  The only thing that held me back from running out and buying this shake was the price (which you can read about more below).  I finally bit the bullet and decided to try it out.  Here’s my review.

PRICE:  C

The Shakeology shake comes in at a whopping $150 for a one-month supply on Amazon.  That’s about $5 per shake (or per meal).  Yes, that more or less costs the same as a latte from Starbucks, but that’s still pretty pricey when it comes to a meal replacement shake.  Granted, this is an incredibly high quality shake, so you are getting bang for your buck.  But it’s a lot of bucks, so be prepared to feel the pinch.

TASTE:  A

Shakeology comes in four flavors: Chocolate, Greenberry, Chocolate Vegan, and Tropical Strawberry. I decided to try out Shakeology’s chocolate shake (since I’ve heard terrible things about Greenberry flavor — seriously, avoid it at all costs). I have to say I really enjoyed this shake. It tasted just like chocolate.  I mean super chocolately (and lucky for me I’m into that).  Granted, I mixed it with a little skim milk in order to help with the consistency, so that may have affected the taste.  But it was still really good.

APPETITE BLOCKER:  A

Beachbody Shakeology shake is so thick that it will literally keep you full for hours.  It doesn’t hurt that it has 17 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber too.  Although it may take you forever to drink this whole shake down.  It’s that thick, but it’s definitely worth it.  Because along with feeling full, it also gives you a lot of energy too.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE:  A+

Every single fruit, vegetable, vitamin, and mineral you can think of is jammed into a Shakeology shake. It’s got pomegranate, wheat grass, goji berries, green tea, 100% of your daily value for Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B12 (just to name a few out of the 75+ ingredients). So if you’re wondering where all your money went buying this shake, it went into the nutrients. That scores an A+ for me.

Overall, Shakeology is a great shake, but just be prepared for the sticker shock.

I gave shakeology a try after all my friends on social media were raving about it. I would mix almond milk, ice and some peanut butter in my blended shake. I had to choke it down most days. I did not like the way the chocolate tasted. I paid around $150 for a bag of shakes and 21 day fix and the food containers. I was never full from these shakes they left me with hunger pains. I’ll continue using my berry shakes from advocare.

interesting read: BUT CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET PAST THE STUPID COMMENTS OF WHAT FLAVORS THEY EAT BUT INSTEAD TELL HOW WELL THEY LOSE WEIGHT. Im just saying, it seems like everyone is on huge tangent and gotten off topic.

its horrible: Long story short. every month I had the worst PMS Mood swings, period cramps. Like I am dying on the floor seriously thought I had a miscarriage or something! I also gained 20lbs in 6 months. I only wanted a breakfast replacement and a way to workout indoors. I never needed to lose weight. I weighed 125 and gained like 10lbs in like 2 months. When I talked to my “coach” she said that I was not committed enough, exercising and eating properly. she totally shifted the blame on to me. When I had never had problems gaining weight since I learned to eat clean 5 years ago. it’s pretty messed up bc they get inside your head and try to tell you you’re not athletic or eat well enough. it didn’t work on me because I was already active and athletic and a super clean eater! Who ever is selling this CRAP either A. doesn’t give a hoot about people , or B. is completely blind. Although there are not ENOUGH bad reviews for this product and I can see why people MAY get confused and think its ok to sell. You all have been warned. Thanks for posting! I feel like i DESTROYED years worth of fitness to my body. It is no ones fault but mine. feel

I am sorry you had a horrible experience with your coach. I have a coach and she is amazing! You need to remember that your coach is not “the” person you need to work with. you can change coaches and may be to your advantage. I believe you when you say you have been athletic and whatnot..but seriously if this person told you you are not committed enough and you feel like she is blaming you, well she has a horrible approach! she does not speak for beachbody…she is also not to blame as well nor is beachbody. beachbody has amazing videos and you wanted something to do indoors, so I don’t see what the problem is and how that really relates to the actual shakes. if you gained 10lbs have you perhaps thought it may be due to muscle mass? The ingredients are amazing and healthy, so I cannot see how your experience can make the shake horrible and that others should avoid it….sorry had to comment! I Just don’t like to see a product get bad reviews when clearly you coach sucks and is probably a coach for discount only and loves the power trip over others…I say change coach and try again. also what are you mixing the shakes with and when do you drink in in accordance to your exercise or activities ?

I tried the chocolate with water and it was horrible. When I blended it with half milk and half water, half a frozen banana and some ice, it literally tasted like a chocolate milkshake. I loved it. The greenberry tastes great to me anyway I make it. When doing a cleanse and avoiding dairy, I just mix it with ice and water and it tastes delicious to me. I am not the biggest fan of strawberry, but my super picky soon said it was the best taste ever. I make him smoothies with it, 1/3-1/2 scoop of strawberry, spinach, bananas, whole milk and yogurt and chia seeds and he loves his breakfast. The vanilla has a chalky taste, so I have to drink it with milk or frozen fruit to smooth it out. I often mix it with my homemade chai tea and milk for a great drink. With anything, it’s finding the recipe that makes it work for you. It’s worth all the trouble. I could barely drag myself out of bed each day as I was so exhausted. I eat really healthy, but running my own business and taking care of three small children was taking a toll. This gave me renewed energy and more time with my family. Worth every penny.

I am trying to find the right shake. A friend just sent me a sample of Shakelogy. I mixed it with Almond milk because I need the added calcium. I found the chocolate way too sweet. I’ve used Isogenix in the past and loved the shakes but hated the cleanse and the snacks so I stopped.

honestly i LOVE the greenberry flavor! it is certainly unique i’ll give it that, but just with most health shakes if you don’t like the base flavor mix it with something and you can make it taste like a milkshake. for instance if the greenberry flavor gets a little dull after a few days i mix it with fresh banana and it tastes amazing. so before buying what i recommend is going to the shakeology website and getting a sample box for $20 you get information about shakeology and sample packets of each flavor they offer. How awesome is that and if your serious about losing weight, gaining energy, or just getting healthier is there a better way to go than just trying all the flavors to find out which ones you like best instead of spending $150 for a 30 day supply of a flavor you may end up hating. i honestly love all of the flavors the only one that wouldn’t be my first choice is the vegan tropical strawberry, but it is still really good and the vegan flavors don’t taste any different from the regular flavors so if you can scrounge up the money i highly recommend giving it a try it’s worth it.

  • Rachel October 29, 2014, 12:12 pm

I mixed the chocolate vegan flavor with water and ice using my Ninja and found it to be very chalky tasting. Also, when you start mixing this with other things like many people say to do it becomes even more expensive.

    • Michelle M February 28, 2017, 9:07 am

I agree chalky and nasty 🙁

  • Alesha Hammond August 25, 2014, 4:57 am

Couple things wrong here… First off price, personally I get mine for about $100/month because I’m a coach (also when you sign people up you get commission so really I pay about $50/mo) and Greenberry is, in my experience, one of the most popular ones! It’s definitely my personal favorite but I’ve heard that from lots of other people too. I was just looking at this to see if maybe there was something comparable and maybe I was spending too much on shakes but based on the first 2 I read I’m obviously making the right decision with shakeology. The other shakes aren’t even close to the same quality, I’m very surprised to see this in the 3rd spot.

  • August 16, 2014, 6:21 am

The price is worth and but it’s also wrong.. it’s $130 for a bag when you order through beachbody and you can then sign as a discount coach for another 25% off. Making it $99.. that’s about $3.55 a shake.. put that in your grocery budget as that’s replacing an entire meal. That’s a great value considering you get 70 superfoods in one swoop. I’ll drink shakeology for the rest of my life.. it’s not even about weight loss but good nutrition and giving your body the right fuel it needs

    • Becky March 18, 2015, 8:29 am

The shake costs $130 + $2 shipping (autoship) = $132. If you’re a coach you get a 25% discount for a cost of $99. But, according to their website, there’s a monthly fee of $16 for the Coach Online Office making the actual cost $115 (or more if your state charges sales tax on food items). That assumes you have no sales as a coach. Still good in that people can get a discount as a coach even if they don’t want to sell it. I want it for me and my hubby but $230 month is practically a car payment. I know the nutrition is amazing in shakeology but it’s out of our price range and out of a lot of people’s price range I bet. Too bad shakeology can’t make it more accessible to people 🙁

      • Sandi May 3, 2015, 7:21 am

It’s interesting that you would compare yourself to a car and your whole health is not your priority. Shakeology is all natural food that feeds your body with complete nutrition. My family gets multiple bags a month and they are free, because we are active coaches. And I need a car, but that is why one works. My families health (fitness and nutrition) is more important to live active and long lives. As a coaches, we help people not harm (that includes financially)! How much is spent on medical visits, illness, hospital & E. R. visits? If you can lower BP, cholesterol, glycemic intake that is a total blessing. Also, exercise can deter dementia/Alzheimer’s. A healthy family with a healthy lifestyle is a great choice!

        • Barbara January 16, 2016, 11:31 am

WOW Sandi way to dismiss Becky! Not everyone has an income that can afford multiple bags of Shakeology. I was seriously considering this product but on a fixed income it is just too expensive.

          • Aimee June 21, 2017, 5:22 am

It’s true Becky if I had a spouse or someone else drinking the shakes i couldn’t afford it either, I’ve budgeted it in. However, I agree after looking at the price of others, they are cheaper. With that said, I’ve tried herbalife and I prefer shakeology.

It’s been a week for me so far it’s been fantastic. I use almond milk. Frozen berries & frozen bananas Sometimes the powdered peanut butter If you prepare your shake right you’ll love it. I do all vegan Tried strawberry vegan with frozen fruit almond milk Way better than an ice cream shake. No love berries so it’s perfect for me. The shake really pretty much replace my breakfast & lunch I use my Ninga I add ice at times So for me it’s a Godsend! Way cheaper if you go through a coach. She gets you the best price & is on hand for q&a Also she puts us in a support group To me it’s well worth the price. I have not had this much energy in years!

Amazon is fast and easy purchase no shipping and handling cost ..

  • Jessica July 4, 2014, 12:20 pm

I am a Beachbody coach and I drink Shakeology faithfully and love it. Please don’t purchase on Amazon – too expensive – purchase from a coach. It is $129 at the Beachbody website, plus shipping. If you get the home direct where they auto ship each month, shipping is free. If you sign up to be a coach, you get 25% off (It comes to about $4 per day). It is actually not thick, it depends on what you put in it. I put mine in a Shaker Cup with ice for a quick meal on the run or blend with frozen berries or a ripe banana. It’s as thick or thin as you want it to be. But it is so full of nutrients – It’s my daily dose of dense nutrition!

Diet plans make you lose weight fast
Fruit and vegetables are inexpensive, healthy and delicious, but large numbers of Kiwi kids simply don’t eat an adequate amount of them forever health. The diet plan we learn as youngsters are more likely to turn into life-long pattern, if our youngsters eat poorly they may be prone to become adults with unhealthy diets.Picky eaters not only suffer nutritionally, as they age they become increasingly socially disadvantaged. The inability to eat in others’s homes or perhaps in ethnic restaurants can be a problem in the event the crew can be a Thai buffet, your top client invites you to lunch at a Japanese restaurant, or your flatmate who cooks every second night is a vegan. use unhealthy dietary practices for weight control.

I am 57 year old mother of four and one grandson. My husband and I both love our chocolate Shakeology. I have been drinking it for the last five years. Previous to drinking Shakeology the doctors wanted to put me on blood pressure and cholesterol meds. I chose shakeology instead and love it.

  • Brandie March 29, 2014, 9:26 pm

the greenberry isn’t that bad. I drink it as a shake blended with orange juice and water, blueberries and a banana. It is really good that way. 🙂

  • Mike March 18, 2014, 6:17 pm

I wish you would list the vitamins/protein and calories for all of these drinks. Without this is very much a subjective comparison.

  • Jack February 11, 2014, 7:24 am

I agree withh your shakeology review. It is an incredible meal replacement shake. The price is painful as you said. I greatly enjoy it so I will keep purchasing it. It really makes you feel good. It now comes in strawberry as well. They reformulated the green berry and I have heard good (better) things. I get the chocolate/vanilla/strawberry combo box. Thank you for your reviews.

  • John December 6, 2013, 5:53 am

I cannot believe you enojoyed this shake. It was horrible. Maybe maybe.. if you mix it with the recipes it would be better. I had it with 1% milk and it truly tasted horrible.

    • Fit Girl December 7, 2013, 9:35 pm

Thanks for the comment, John. Shakeology isn’t for everyone. It definitely is a super thick shake and some people can’t get past it. For me, I like it. It’s just really expensive. 🙂

Only a tiny bit of ice. I sometimes add tropical fruit. It’s as thick as you want it to be, and I prefer thinner. But it is so full of nutrients – like nature in a glass!

      Thanks for the insight!

    • Joe April 13, 2014, 2:01 pm

Don’t forget the $16 a month to be a coach so that’s really $113 a month. Do you get free shipping?

      • Dani June 8, 2014, 6:49 pm

If you do the auto ship each mth, you get a big break on shipping! Love all the reviews, thanks everyone for sharing 🙂

    • Nichole February 3, 2015, 10:43 am

I don’t know why you’re saying don’t buy it on Amazon, Beachbody is the one who is selling it on Amazon!! Not everyone wants to pay to be a coach and have to have it auto shipped…Amazon is great for those who don’t and BB is still getting their $ so no worries

    • Kathy October 27, 2015, 1:28 pm

What is involved in being a coach to get a discount? I really like it but am considering switching to 310 Shake because of the price.

  • February 28, 2013, 2:27 am

I’ve been using Shakeology just about every day for 4 years now. Can’t remember the last time I was sick. Its also made a big difference in my workout results.

    • Fit Girl February 28, 2013, 5:57 am

I completely agree, Brad. Shakeology is a great go-to drink after a serious workout. It fills you up and gives you energy.
